Sometimes you can squeak a project out of the "stranded" pile before a year has passed

Yes, but it takes real self-discipline. Or motivation. Or both.

So you know how I'm really good at putting off crafting projects for ages, and then once I have to pack for a trip, all of a sudden I'm all over that to do list, cranking out 3 or 4 items and getting halfway through each project only to discover that, um, it's time to fly across the 1) country, or 2) world?

Yeah. Well anyways. I present Exhibit 43215689321 to that effect ...

That's right. An envelope-style laptop case. And yes, that does also mean that I've been toting around my laptop without a case for a year now. Luckily, my old laptop was so darn big/clunky/heavy that it rarely left my apartment, so that wasn't a problem. However, once it stopped being able to run two programs simultaneously without freezing up on me, I finally faced the fact that I might just have to get a new one if I wanted to maintain my paranoid sanity during finals.

"Did I back everything up? Really? What about this paper I'm writing ~ maybe I need to email it to myself AGAIN. You know, so I don't lose that extra 1.5 paragraphs I just edited, in case this thing craps out on me."

My new laptop is smaller and lighter, so I cut down the previous unfinished case in size a bit, sewed through massive layers, slapped on a binding, and called it a day. For once, there was good reason to have kept this in the "stranded" pile for so long.

Totally crushing on it. For the inside layer, I used a layer of batting inside the lining, and I lined the denim exterior with a thin piece of duck cloth as well. My sewing machine does hate me, but the added protection is worthwhile, I think. My first time using reverse applique, would it be easier if I free motion'd it? Not that this sewing machine can, but for future reference.

Ah, and progress. When I finish [I'm hoping for late summer myself], this one wings out to a fellow knitting friend in CA ...

Beautiful laptop case! It's always great when leaving a UFO unfinished works out for the best.
