Blogger's Quilt Festival

For the Blogger's Quilt Festival, I thought I'd share this quilt that I made for Doll Quilt Swap 7. It's my fourth doll quilt ever, and there's really something about working with a limited amount of space that lets you really dig deep into the elements of your quilt, you know?

Inspired by this skirt which I spent all summer making, I just knew that I had to use these fabrics in another combination. Luckily my partner gave me free reign, and this is what I came up with. I appliqued the side/left portions of the quilt and did the rest in a freeform patchworking style. My rotary cutter saw a lot of action! Handquilted, since I don't have a walking foot.

I loved playing with regularity and randomness in this quilt. I also love this quilt because I felt like I was inching my way towards the Big League ... OK, well maybe the middle leagues ... in terms of crafting. Like, hey, I can use those fancy fabrics too, and I can make stuff that actually photographs decently and looks original and maybe I'm getting the hang of this crafting business. And, frankly, this quilt will always make me think of Summer 2009, when I was between semesters in graduate school, renting my friend's studio on Park Dr., dragon boating and interning with an amazing organization, overcast days and humid evenings. The summer I first learned to like Boston ...

Your doll quilt is so cute! I especially like the arrow and the salvage edge with the fabric info. Very creative and the use of shape and space is unreal.

What a very cute little doll quilt. I too also like the little detail of putting a selvege edge into the quilt sashing. It is a nice record of the fabric. I'll have to try that on my next project.

Such a cute quilt! I love how the spots on the fabric in one place look like eyes.

Great quilt, I love the skirt with these colors too, beautiful! I laughed when you said hand-quilted "because I don't have a walking-foot." The hand quilting is such a nice touch, congrats for being resourceful with what you have!

I also like to create random quilts. The freshness of your petite piece is great, especially with the white.
